How to install xampp to build web applications in PHP and MySql
Building web application bases on PHP and MySql is relatively easy. All we need to do is to install one package named Xampp. This is a package of well configured standard services like PHP server, MySQL server, Filezilla server or Mercury server.
Let’s start from searching in google. Type ‘xampp’ phrase:
You should see more or less such a view:
Let’s go to the main xampp link by clicking on the first result in google search engine.
From the download section let’s select Xampp for Windows. If you prefer other operating systems like Linux or OS X you can select other download links.
For the moment I write this post the latest version is xampp-win32-7.2.9-0-VC.
This package consists of:
– PHP – 7.2.9
– MariaDB – 10.1.35 – this is fully compatible with MySql 5.6
Installation process is very easy. You may be informed in the first process about your antivirus like below:
Sometimes it is important to switch off your antivirus program during xampp installation, but not always it is needed.
Click next in the first main screen to go to the next part where you will see main xampp packages.
Leave all of them as default set.
In the one of the latest screen you should set path. As default the path is set to C:/xampp
In the last two screen click Next button and the setup process will run:
When installation process will go to the end then you can see congratulation window:
Now you are ready to run your any of your PHP aplications. In the next posts will be used very often xampp for local development and testing of web applications.
